Jennifer Lopez has had quite the year, from getting engaged to Alex Rodriguez, her It’s My Party tour, shutting down the runway at Milan Fashion Week, starring in Hustlers, and getting ready for her Super Bowl halftime show with Shakira. She is the definition of a boss!
At the Promise by Jennifer Lopez pop-up launch for her new fragrance, J Lo shared the best business advice she’s ever received, the inspiration behind her new fragrance, and how she trained for her role as Ramona, the beauty and brains behind the real-life story of strippers stealing money from Wall Street clientele.
If you’ve ever scrolled through J Lo’s and ARod’s Instagrams, you’ll quickly realize that she’s a badass in the gym, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. She’s in great shape, but she admitted that training for Hustlers was really hard.
“It’s fine if you’re 5-to-10 years old and you’re trying to learn how to do acrobatics. When you’re my age, your body is like ‘What are you doing?'” she said.
J Lo consistently trains three to four times a week for an hour, and it’s definitely paid off. “I don’t kill myself. I used to do more workouts when I was younger. I’ve learned how to do it smarter now,” she said. There’s no denying J Lo was in insane shape before shooting, but she said, “I knew I had to get in better shape the minute I decided to do Hustlers.”
Because they pushed back the shoot schedule and premiere date, J Lo said she had enough time “to get myself in really great physical strength and build a little bit of strength with weights.” The hardest part about all of her training? Learning how to pole dance for the movie.
“It was awful. In your mind you think ‘Oh I want to learn how to pole dance, that sounds sexy! Oh wow, this is going to be fun,’ and then the reality of that steel pipe against your bones and trying to hold on with your inner thighs — it’s not fun,” she admitted. But like any type of training, “Once you kind of get a few moves down, you actually do feel really awesome.”
